The ship Recordação is aground on the bank of the Sado River, in the Setúbal area, near the national road 104. It is situated in an open and quiet area, with a direct view of the Tróia peninsula and the calm waters of the estuary. The location is easily accessible and offers a wide perspective of the river and the surrounding natural landscape.
Along the bank, it is possible to observe other old vessels, but the Recordação stands out due to its impressiveness and the contrast between the wear of time and the urban art that now covers its structures. The scenery is especially appreciated in the late afternoon, when the sunset light enhances the colors of the rusted metal and the graffiti.
The Recordação is one of the old ferries that, for decades, ensured the connection between Setúbal and Tróia, transporting passengers, vehicles, and memories from a time when the crossing was part of the local daily life. Its name symbolically reflects the nostalgic role it occupies today: a silent testimony to the maritime history of the region.
Decommissioned and abandoned for several years, the ship has become a point of curiosity and reflection. For many visitors, it represents the passage of time and the relationship between nature and human intervention, as salt, wind, and tides shape its structure.
The ship presents itself covered in layers of rust and colorful graffiti that give it a unique appearance. Each wall seems to tell a new story, mixing art, decay, and memory. The combination of the open sky, the reflection of the Sado River, and the textures of the hull creates a visually impactful scene, ideal for photography.
During low tide, it is possible to approach the vessel and observe its details up close, although access to the interior requires caution due to the state of degradation. The play of light and shadow within the rusted structures is often described as hypnotic, especially during the calmer hours of the day.
The Recordação attracts both the curious and lovers of photography, graphic arts, and industrial heritage. The atmosphere is serene, with the sound of birds and water completing the scenery. Many visitors choose to watch the sunrise or sunset from the bank, taking advantage of the tranquility and the open view over the estuary.
Despite the abandonment, the location retains a certain poetic charm, awakening feelings of nostalgia among those who once crossed the river on these vessels. Between rust and art, the Recordação remains a visual landmark of Setúbal's collective memory.
