Echoes of the Name

The name Largo do Poço da Garça evokes a dual connection with the history and nature of the region. The word "Poço" (well) suggests a historical importance of water to the site, perhaps indicating an old supply point or a place of community gathering. "Garça" (heron, a water bird) refers to the local fauna, potentially pointing to the proximity of wetlands or riverbanks that once attracted or still attract these birds, underscoring the connection between urban development and the surrounding ecosystem.

As an open space, it allows for good natural light, and the neighborhood's name itself suggests that late afternoon might be a particularly pleasant time to experience the location, with its characteristic light. The square serves as a pause point in the daily life of Vila Nova de Santo André, inviting the enjoyment of the space and its calmness, reflecting an urban planning concept that prioritizes pedestrian activity and the quality of common spaces.
