The locality of Lamarosa, situated in the municipality of Torres Novas, is a peaceful rural area. The point of interest dedicated to Senhor Jesus is located in an area that reflects the region's deep connection to agriculture, where the simplicity of the countryside merges with stories of faith and tradition.
The significance of this place, known as Senhor Jesus, is intrinsically linked to an ancient popular legend passed down from generation to generation. The story goes that, in times past, farmers worked their fields with the help of teams of oxen. One day, as they passed a certain spot, the animals unexpectedly stopped and knelt, refusing to pull the plough.
Perplexed by the oxen's behavior, the farmers decided to investigate the land. To their great surprise, upon turning over the earth, they discovered a stone tomb. Inside this tomb, an image of Jesus was revealed. Faced with such a discovery, the farmers also knelt, exclaiming "Miracle!" The image was carefully removed and, from that moment on, became known as the Lord Jesus of the Farmers, a name that perpetuates the memory of its extraordinary discovery and its connection to rural life.
The presence of Senhor Jesus and the legend associated with it bestow a particular cultural and symbolic value upon this site. It represents the strong union among agricultural communities, their beliefs, and the narratives that shaped their identity. The story of the image, found in such a peculiar way, is a testament to popular faith and the community's ability to value and perpetuate unusual events, transforming them into an integral part of its heritage and collective memory.
