A green area spanning 39 hectares, located between the Convent of Christ and the center of Tomar. Known as the city's "lung," it combines garden, park, and forest.
The enclosure dates back to the 15th century and was part of the properties of the Templars and, later, the Order of Christ. During the reign of King John III, the space was expanded to include agricultural land, valleys, and forests to sustain the convent.
Created to offer the monks a place for retreat, prayer, and cultivation, ensuring food self-sufficiency and an environment of tranquility.
An emblematic element, this small circular construction in the center of the forest was used as a place of retreat. Its unique architecture transports us to the Templar past.
Includes centuries-old trees such as olive trees, oaks, and pine trees, as well as rich Mediterranean vegetation. It offers a tranquil and natural atmosphere.
In 1938, it was transformed into a forest park, and in 1986, it became part of the National Parks Service, receiving the name Mata Nacional dos Sete Montes (Seven Hills National Forest).
An ideal place for hiking, picnics, sports, and outdoor recreation. It has picnic areas, trails, and children's spaces.
Preserves the original 16th-century planning, allowing visitors to explore the connection between the convent, nature, and Templar history.
