The Church of Santa Bárbara is located in the village of Carregueira, a small and peaceful settlement integrated into the municipality of Chamusca. Nestled in a landscape that reflects the serenity of the Ribatejo region, its location allows for tranquil contact with local life, far from the hustle and bustle of large urban centers. The church is situated in a communal environment, easily accessible for those exploring the village.
Dedicated to Santa Bárbara, the patron saint of the community, this church stands out for its relatively recent history. The parish of Carregueira, of which this temple is the main place of worship, was established in August 1993, resulting from the disaggregation of a neighboring parish. Its construction is marked by the simplicity of its lines and its functionality, reflecting a contemporary and uncomplicated architectural style.
Inside the church, a particular element deserves the attention of visitors: the stone image associated with the cult of the Divine Holy Spirit. This artistic piece, due to its materiality and the symbolism it contains, constitutes one of the temple's most significant visual and devotional points of interest, inviting observation and reflection on local traditions.
