The Casa do Bugio e do Mourisqueiro is located in Sobrado, a locality in the municipality of Valongo, within the parish of Campo. The building stands in an area that reflects the identity of this community, serving as a central point for its most significant traditions.

It is situated in an environment that provides direct contact with the local spirit, where history and popular culture intertwine genuinely.

A Dream with Roots in Tradition

The Casa do Bugio e do Mourisqueiro represents a significant milestone for the community of Sobrado. Its construction fulfilled an age-old desire of the inhabitants, who united to create a space dedicated to the preservation and celebration of their centuries-old traditions and the experience of the São João Festival.

The foundation stone of this building was laid in 1997, marking the beginning of a project that benefited from local commitment and the support of various entities. Since 2001, this venue has become the main stage for many of the rituals and gatherings that precede and mark the emblematic Festa de São João de Sobrado, notably the renowned "jintares" and the two-tremoço tests. In 2022, the building was officially designated with its current name, reinforcing its inseparable connection to the figures of the Bugio and the Mourisqueiro.

Spaces of Memory and Celebration

The building houses several spaces, each with a specific function in safeguarding memory and preparing for festivities, offering a deeper understanding of the local cultural richness.

The Bugiada Room, one of the most recent additions, is dedicated to storing the assets, uniforms, and accessories used by the Bugios. Similarly, the Mouriscada Room was one of the first spaces created on the upper floor, dedicated to the preservation of the costumes and objects of the Mourisqueiros.

There is also a room dedicated to the management and archive, where one can access a vast bibliographic, artistic, and photographic collection documenting the history and evolution of the festival. The two large halls, the Bugios Hall and the Mourisqueros Hall, are meeting places for the community's famous gatherings, with the former also hosting the traditional "sarrabulhada," and the latter, with its more open location, serving as a stage for smaller-scale get-togethers.
