Nestled on a hillside above the village of Câmara de Lobos, the property offers a panorama encompassing part of the valley and a discreet perspective of the Atlantic Ocean. The winery is situated at a high level, where the slope of the vineyard terraces blends with functional-style buildings, lending a gentle charm to the surroundings.
The scenery includes the cultivation of vines planted on terraces, where the rocky soil and mild climate contribute to the unique character of the wines. The immediate nature, amidst rocks and endemic vegetation, invites contemplative pauses.
Founded in 1946 by Mário Barbeito de Vasconcelos, the house has always remained under family management. The initial passion for Madeira wine production inspired a path with few but firm adherents, with shipments to foreign markets that cultivated lasting relationships.
In 1985, his daughter Manuela de Vasconcelos took over the direction, continuing the legacy by promoting harvests at international fairs and reinforcing ties with long-standing clients. This continuity creates a living link between generations and preserves historical winemaking methods.
The facilities combine warehouse areas and small aging rooms, where old casks coexist with more recent equipment. Visitors can clearly and accessibly observe stages such as must heating and progressive aging in wood.
Around, an industrial touch is softened by low-lying vegetation and vineyard terraces. The luminosity and simple lines of the buildings enhance an unpretentious atmosphere, where the focus is on the raw material and the story each bottle carries.
