The Botanical Garden Cable Car is located in the Desterro area, which belongs to the locality of Monte, in the municipality of Funchal. This aerial transport system establishes the connection between the area where the Botanical Garden is situated and the elevated point of Monte, specifically Largo das Babosas.

Its strategic position offers a unique perspective on the Ribeira de João Gomes valley and the urban landscape of the Madeiran capital, framing the route within an area of natural beauty characteristic of the island.

The Panoramic Journey:

The aerial crossing, with a length of 1600 meters, allows passengers to enjoy a panoramic view of the natural and urban surroundings. During the approximately nine minutes of the journey, it is possible to observe the harmony between the lush green vegetation and the blue of the ocean, which defines a large part of the island's landscape.

The cable car has twelve cabins, each with the capacity to carry up to eight seated passengers. The journey is made at a maximum speed of 15 km/h, a pace that invites quiet observation and detailed appreciation of the scenery that unfolds along the trip.

Design and Function:

Inaugurated in 2005, the Botanical Garden Cable Car was conceived as an innovative way to explore the orography and landscape of Funchal. Its creation aimed to provide a distinct means of access and a unique mobility experience in the region, integrating into the local environment.

The infrastructure is of the monocable gondola lift type, a system that ensures the continuous and stable movement of the cabins. This construction offers an elevated perspective, enriching the knowledge of the area and its natural heritage.
