Quinta Magnólia is located in the city of Funchal, situated in the Barreiros area. This location within the municipality of Funchal offers visitors a tranquil environment within the urban context of Madeira's capital.

A Historical Legacy

The history of Quinta Magnólia has its roots in the first half of the 19th century, when an influential Funchal merchant, J. Howard March, decided to build this property. Over the decades, the estate had several owners, many of British origin, which in turn gave it the identity of a British Country Club. In 1980, Quinta Magnólia was acquired by the Regional Government, opening its doors to the public ever since, preserving its original charm.

A Garden of Exotic Flora

This green space is distinguished by its vast expanse, occupying approximately 35,000 m². The garden showcases a remarkable collection of botanical species from various continents such as the Far East, Mexico, Brazil, the USA, and Africa. Thanks to Funchal's subtropical climate, these exotic trees and plants maintain their exuberance throughout the year. Notably, the imposing presence of the Magnolia tree, whose large white flowers and citrus scent gave this emblematic place its name, enriches the environment with its natural beauty.

Sports and Cultural Spaces

Quinta Magnólia underwent a thorough renovation, which focused not only on its landscaped outdoor spaces but also on the main building, known as the "mother house". Currently, the venue offers various sports facilities, including tennis courts, padel courts, and a squash court, complemented by a fitness circuit. In addition to active leisure, the "mother house" hosts a dynamic cultural center, with spaces dedicated to temporary exhibitions and the showcasing of works by both emerging and established artists, contributing to the city's cultural offerings.
