Calheta Beach is located on the southwest coast of Madeira Island, within the town and municipality of Calheta, in the urban area of Convento. Its location benefits from a typically sunnier and milder climate, ideal for those looking to enjoy the proximity of the sea. This beach is situated next to the town's recreational harbour, complementing its coastal environment.
With an extension of about 100 meters, Calheta Beach is one of Madeira's few yellow sand beaches. Opened in 2004, its design was an innovative project, making it an artificial beach that offers a bathing experience different from traditional pebble beaches. The presence of golden sand invites moments of relaxation and contact with the maritime landscape.
The waters of Calheta Beach are notably calm and clear, a feature guaranteed by the presence of breakwaters that protect the cove. These conditions make it ideal for swimming and for practicing water sports such as canoeing and windsurfing. The excellence of its bathing waters is annually recognized, with Calheta Beach having been distinguished with the "Qualidade de Ouro" (Gold Quality) seal, a reference certificate for those seeking a safe and pleasant place to enjoy the Atlantic.
