Location

Parque das Queimadas is located in the Queimadas area, belonging to the municipality of Santana, on the island of Madeira. It is situated in a more sheltered area, about five kilometers from the town of Santana.

Its position offers direct contact with the essence of the Madeiran forest, serving as an access point to explore the surrounding natural richness in a tranquil environment.

Nature and Biodiversity

This park is a true sanctuary of wildlife, distinguished by the remarkable presence of the Laurissilva Forest, an ecosystem of inestimable value classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Walking along its paths, it is possible to discover a variety of native tree species, such as the Til and the Pau-branco, as well as centuries-old heathers. The dense vegetation is enriched by other plants like the Folhado and the Uveira-da-serra, and the Cedro-da-madeira. The wildlife is equally notable, with the possibility of spotting endemic birds of Madeira, such as the Tentilhão, the Bis-bis, and the rare Pombo-trocaz, in addition to other species like the Lavadeira and the Manta.

In the heart of the park lies the Casa de Abrigo das Queimadas, a building that is a true symbol of Madeiran rural architecture. This house maintains the original characteristics of the old Santana dwellings, notably its distinctive thatched roof.

Originally used by forest rangers, it has been transformed into a space that preserves and shares the island's traditions, allowing visitors a glimpse into local history and ancient ways of life.
