The Vitória Santa Rita Parish is located in the Santa Rita area, an integral part of the São Martinho parish, in the municipality of Funchal. This location is set within an urban environment, offering a point of reference and tranquility within the city, inviting moments of contemplation.
The origins of the Vitória/Santa Rita Parish date back to a decree by D. David de Sousa, then Bishop of Funchal, who established it on November 24, 1960. Its parochial activities began on January 1, 1961, initially using the Capela da Vitória as its headquarters, a space with its own history that served as the foundation for the new community.
This temple is a central point of devotion to Saint Rita of Cascia, the patron saint of the community. Parish life is characterized by an atmosphere of faith and sharing, with celebrations that gather many faithful. Annually, the dedication to its patron saint is manifested in solemn moments, which include eucharists and a traditional procession through the streets of the parish. The symbolic blessing of the roses is one of the most striking rituals, expressing the deep connection and devotion of the believers to Saint Rita.
