History and Foundation

The Parish Church of Arco de São Jorge, also known as the Church of Saint Joseph, is an important landmark in the religious and cultural history of the civil parish of Arco de São Jorge, in the municipality of Santana.

The church was built in the 20th century, with the blessing and laying of the first stone on May 1, 1955, by the then Bishop of Funchal, D. António Manuel Pereira Ribeiro.
