District: Madeira > São Vicente > Santa Quitéria
It began as a small chapel dedicated to Saint Quiteria in the 17th century. The building seen today was constructed in the 18th century, between 1749 and 1769, becoming the main church of the parish of Boaventura.
The architectural style is Baroque, but in a simple form, typical of the region. The façade is modest and features a bell tower beside it. The interior consists of a single nave.
Inside, the chancel stands out with its main altar in gilded carving, a typical work of the Baroque period. There are also side altars dedicated to other saints, and religious images, including that of the patron saint, Saint Quiteria.
The church is dedicated to Saint Quiteria, who is the patron saint of the parish of Boaventura. Her image is located inside, on the main altar.
