The parish of Nossa Senhora da Graça gained independence in the 16th century, after beginning as part of the Calheta parish. The chapel of Nossa Senhora da Graça was its starting point.
The chapel was founded by João de França, son of André Gonçalves de França. Over time, it became the epicenter of the new parish and also the seat of the entailed estate (morgado) established by João de França in 1503.
The current church was built in 1791. This construction is a significant landmark in the history of the parish and features historical architecture that enchants visitors.
The Parish Church of Nossa Senhora da Graça is designated as a "Classified Property of Municipal Value," according to Decree No. 129/77 of September 29.
