Integrated into the urban fabric of Funchal, the Olympic Swimming Pool Complex is located in the Alámos area, a characteristic part of the locality. Its position within the city of Funchal ensures a natural integration into the urban environment, making it a reference point for aquatic sports in the region.
The facilities of this aquatic complex include four distinct pools, designed for various disciplines and levels of practice. The 50-meter Olympic swimming pool, equipped with ten lanes, stands out as ideal for high-performance swimming. Additionally, the complex features a 25-meter pool, a pool dedicated to diving, and a learning pool. This diversity and the remarkable quality of the infrastructure make it one of the most complete venues in the regional sports landscape.
Inaugurated in 2004, the Funchal Olympic Swimming Pool Complex quickly established itself as a fundamental center for aquatic sports in Madeira and Portugal. Its excellent infrastructure allows it to be the only one in the region with the capacity to host large-scale official events. Over the years, it has hosted various national and international championships, such as the European Championships for Swimming with Disabilities, the Winter Masters International Open, and the National Championships for Youths, Juniors, and Seniors. This complex continues to be a preferred venue for high-level competitions, including artistic swimming and water polo, underscoring its importance in the national and international sports scene.
