The history of this club dates back to its inauguration in 1937. However, it was the renowned golf architect Robert Trent Jones who, in 1991, redesigned and modernized the course, giving it the configuration known today. His intervention resulted in a 27-hole course, intelligently divided into three distinct nine-hole circuits: Machico, Desertas, and Serras. This design allows for different playing combinations and exploits the natural topography of the terrain, offering varied challenges to players.

A Renowned Setting

Over the years, the Santo da Serra Golf Club has established itself as a prominent stage in the international golf scene. Between 1993 and 2008, it hosted the Madeira Open, a competition integrated into the PGA European Tour circuit.
