The Rose Garden is located in the northern part of Madeira Island, in the tranquil locality of Arco de São Jorge. This area, known as Poços, is part of the municipality of Santana and offers a natural setting that complements the beauty of the garden.
Inaugurated in April 2004, this Rose Garden was born from a project initiated the previous year and was dedicated to D. Isabel de Herédia, Duchess of Bragança. It is widely recognized as one of the five most notable rose gardens in Europe and also stands out as one of the largest in the world. Its quality and botanical relevance are confirmed by the distinction of "Garden of Excellence", awarded by the World Federation of Rose Societies.
The Rose Garden hosts a diverse collection of over 1,500 species of roses. Here, it is possible to observe a wide range of specimens, from ancient rose bushes to more contemporary varieties, including both shrub and climbing roses. The rarest and most significant species are properly identified, allowing visitors to appreciate their uniqueness and learn about the different classes.
