Foz Palace is located in Praça dos Restauradores, next to Baixa de Lisboa, one of the most central and bustling areas of the city.
The construction of the palace began in the 18th century, after the land was purchased by the Marquises of Castelo Melhor. The building has been altered and restored several times over the years, having passed through different owners and functions.
The 1755 earthquake caused significant damage to the palace, leading to the need for major reconstruction works that lasted until the mid-19th century.
In 1889, the Marquis of Foz acquired the palace and made several architectural changes. Later, the palace went through different uses, including restaurants and a cinema.
In 1940, the Portuguese government bought the building and used it for various purposes, such as the headquarters of the National Propaganda Secretariat. After the April 25, 1974 Revolution, the palace began to house other public institutions.
Currently, Foz Palace hosts several institutions, including the Cinemateca Júnior, the National Sports Museum, and the Lisbon Tourism Association. Rehabilitation works are underway and are expected to be completed in 2025.
The palace is a significant example of Lisbon's noble architecture, with interiors rich in detail, making it a space of cultural and historical interest.
