Alverca Palace, also known as Casa do Alentejo, is located in the parish of Santa Justa, in Lisbon.
This building is considered a Monument of Public Interest, protected by Portuguese legislation.
Built at the end of the 17th century, the palace belonged to the Paes de Amaral family. Throughout its history, it was also known as São Luís Palace, due to its proximity to the Church of São Luís dos Franceses.
, It functioned as a high school and furniture warehouse.
, In 1919, it was transformed into one of the first casinos in Lisbon, the Majestic Club, which brought profound changes to its interior, with revivalist-style decorations.
, The restructuring was led by architect António Rodrigues da Silva Júnior, with the participation of artists and artisans such as Jorge Colaço and Domingos Costa.
, In 1932, Grémio Alentejano established itself in the palace.
, In 1981, the building was acquired by Casa do Alentejo, which maintains it to this day.
, The palace has a quadrangular plan and three courtyards. One of the courtyards was closed, giving rise to the current Velez Conchinhas Room, used by the restaurant.
, Inside, there are several rooms with emphasis on the tiles and decorative elements that vary between neo-Gothic, neo-Arabic, neo-Renaissance, neo-Rococo and Art Nouveau styles, in addition to Baroque elements.
Tourists can explore the richly decorated rooms, appreciate the unique architecture, and experience Alentejo cuisine at the Casa do Alentejo restaurant, located inside the palace.
