Rua dos Remédios, in the Alfama neighborhood, Santa Maria Maior parish, Lisbon.
, Origin: Ordered to be built around 1517 by the Brotherhood of São Pedro Telmo, composed of fishermen and seafarers.
, Legend: The chapel began as dedicated to the Holy Spirit. After the discovery of an image of the Virgin Mary in a well, the chapel became dedicated to Our Lady of Remedies, associated with miracles.
, Hospital: In 1551, the brotherhood built a hospital next to the chapel to help abandoned children.
, Additional Buildings: In the 17th century, the sacristy, the dispatch house, and other dependencies were added. After the 1755 earthquake, the chapel was rebuilt, but the hospital was not renovated.
, Portal: The Manueline portal stands out with its polylobate arch and vegetal decoration, including a shield with the dove of the Holy Spirit.
, Interior: The chapel has a single nave and a rectangular chancel. The walls of the nave are covered with 18th-century tiles, and the chancel has a painted altarpiece, possibly from the workshop of Gregório Lopes.
, Dispatch House: Located on the floor above the nave of the chapel, an uncommon detail.
, Portal: Classified as a National Monument since 1910.
, Chapel: Designated as a Property of Public Interest.
