Coxos Beach (Surf) is located in the coastal area of Ribamar, municipality of Mafra. This west-facing cove is situated within a vast bay that opens to the Atlantic Ocean, framed by imposing cliffs that contribute to a striking coastal landscape. It is one of the reference spots in the Ericeira World Surfing Reserve, an area distinguished by its global importance in the surfing world.

A Meeting Point for Surfers

This beach is widely recognized for its powerful waves, which make it a prime destination for surf enthusiasts. The consistency of the swell attracts surfers seeking challenges and ideal conditions for the sport. Its importance for surfing is such that it is integrated into the Ericeira World Surfing Reserve, testifying to the value of its waves and the vitality of surf culture in the region. Although the legendary "Coxos wave" is located in an adjacent bay to the south, the beach itself offers notable surfing conditions.

Natural Features

Coxos Beach features a modest-sized sandy area, sprinkled with rock formations that are revealed or hidden with the rhythm of the tides. In the transition from the center to the northern part of the beach, the terrain composition changes, with pebbles and slabs dominating and naturally blending with the base of the surrounding cliffs. The cliffs, particularly the one delimiting the beach to the south, offer a panoramic perspective over the immensity of the ocean and the winding coastline, creating an inspiring backdrop for visitors.

Sea Safety

Given the nature of its waters, Coxos Beach is characterized by strong swell and pronounced ocean currents, especially in its southern part. For these reasons, the beach presents demanding conditions for swimming and is not a supervised location.
