Santo Amaro Beach is located in Oeiras, in the parish of Oeiras e São Julião da Barra, Paço de Arcos e Caxias, just after the train station on the Cascais Line. It stretches along the Oeiras Seafront Promenade, between the mouth of the Laje stream and the pedestrian section that connects to the surrounding urban area.
From the sandy beach, you can see the deep blue of the Atlantic, and behind it, rocky coves and small green patches dot the horizon, giving a sense of serenity to the coastal landscape.
The fine sandy beach, about 700 meters long with a gentle slope, retains the typical freshness of Atlantic beaches. The water remains cool even in the height of summer, attracting those who enjoy a refreshing swim.
Since the early 20th century, this stretch of sand has been a place of local memories: it is said to have been one of President Manuel de Arriaga's favorite spots for bathing. Even today, those who walk among the rocks may spot small coastal birds, such as sandpipers, making this corner a point of natural interest.
A series of wooden walkways crosses the beach, connecting it to the pedestrian pier and the nearby municipal garden. Showers and foot-washing stations are available for rinsing off sand and salt, along with public restrooms accessible during the bathing season.
For added safety, a visible water rescue system is installed along the beach, complemented by recycling points and coastal navigation signage. Close to the sand, there is also a small playground, ideal for families.
