Location

Praça de Diu is located in a residential area of the city of Lisbon, set within a small green square surrounded by quiet streets and private houses. The space forms an open garden area in the middle of the block, creating a calm and leafy setting within the urban environment.

The square is bordered by surrounding streets and residential properties with gardens, which contributes to its peaceful atmosphere. Large mature trees define the landscape and give the space a distinctive character within the neighbourhood.

Landscape and natural setting

The most striking feature of the square is the group of mature trees that dominates the central area. Several of them have wide, dense canopies that provide natural shade across the lawn. Different ornamental species can be observed, including tall trees with slender trunks and a palm tree that stands out for its shape and size.

The ground is mostly covered with grass, with small dirt paths crossing parts of the green area and leading towards the interior of the garden. This layout creates a simple and natural landscape where vegetation is the main visual element.

Spatial layout

At the centre of the square there is a slightly denser cluster of trees, forming a shaded core within the garden. This central grouping structures the surrounding lawn areas and the informal paths that pass through the space.

Along the perimeter, traditional-style lamp posts and small pavements made of Portuguese stone mosaic integrate the garden into the typical urban landscape of Lisbon.

Atmosphere

Praça de Diu conveys the calm character often associated with small neighbourhood gardens. The dense vegetation, the shade provided by the trees and the open lawn create a balanced landscape between nature and the surrounding city.

The setting is visually dominated by the green canopy and the natural light filtering through the branches. This creates a pleasant environment for a quiet walk, observing the vegetation or simply enjoying the relaxed atmosphere of the area.
