Jardim Irmã Lúcia is located in the Areeiro area, in the municipality of Lisbon. It is adjacent to the Church of São João de Deus, developing into distinct areas north and south of the temple. This green space is bordered by several city arteries, namely Rua Brás Pacheco to the west, Avenida do México to the south, Praça de Londres to the east, and Avenida Marconi to the north, harmoniously integrating into the urban fabric.
The name of this garden pays tribute to a figure of great religious and cultural relevance in Portugal: Sister Lúcia. Born Lúcia de Jesus dos Santos, she was one of the three children to whom, according to the Catholic faith, Our Lady appeared in Fátima in 1917. She dedicated her life to prayer, joining the Order of Discalced Carmelites. The attribution of her name to this garden, which occurred in 2005, recognizes her historical and symbolic role.
Jardim Irmã Lúcia offers a landscaped environment conducive to rest and leisure. It stands out for the presence of several remarkable stone sculptures, which are dispersed throughout the green area. These artworks were created by sculptors Euclides Vaz and Anjos Teixeira, and have a curious origin: they once belonged to the vanished Teatro Monumental. The garden features extensive lawns, trees, and paths made of Portuguese pavement that invite a relaxing stroll. For the little ones, there is also a children's playground.
This garden serves as a meeting point for residents and a tranquil refuge for those visiting the area. Its open and public nature invites a break from the city's routine, whether to read a book, converse, or simply enjoy the atmosphere. The presence of the Church of São João de Deus in the vicinity gives the place an atmosphere of serenity. There is a kiosk, a traditional element in Lisbon gardens, which complements the social and leisure aspect of the space.
