Jardim Amália Rodrigues is located in a central area of Lisbon, positioned at the northern end of Parque Eduardo VII. Its elevated position in the city offers an interesting perspective on the urban surroundings. It is situated in the area known as Avenidas Novas, serving as a link in the green corridor that extends towards Monsanto Forest Park.
This green space was inaugurated in 1996, initially known as Jardim do Alto do Parque. In 2000, it received its current name in honor of Amália Rodrigues, a central figure in Portuguese culture. The landscape design was the responsibility of architect Gonçalo Ribeiro Telles, who designed the garden by exploring the natural characteristics of the terrain.
The garden features a variety of environments resulting from its design and relief. It includes an outdoor amphitheater, with a south-facing view over the Avenida da Liberdade valley. There is also a circular lake, which contributes to the tranquility of the place and serves as a habitat for aquatic life, connected by a straight water channel. The vegetation is diverse, with trees such as olive trees, stone pines, and palm trees.
Various works of art punctuate the garden. Notable among them is the sculpture "Maternidade" (Motherhood), a metal piece by the renowned Colombian sculptor Fernando Botero, dated 1999. Also found is the sculpture "O Segredo" (The Secret), created by the Portuguese sculptor Lagoa Henriques. In addition to the artistic elements, the garden offers visitors the opportunity to enjoy wide views over the city and the Tagus River from some of its highest points.
