District: Lisboa > Odivelas > Ramada
Situated in the locality of Ramada, in the municipality of Odivelas, this church stands amidst an urban setting characterized by modern residential buildings. Its imposing volume stands out in the landscape, creating a striking contrast with its surroundings. Access is via wide streets, with open areas in the vicinity that allow for a full appreciation of the facade. Despite being located in a city environment, it maintains a serene atmosphere conducive to contemplation.
From various points in the area, it is possible to see the slender tower topped by a cross, an element that helps to easily identify the temple from a distance. The surroundings are essentially residential, which reinforces the church's proximity to the local community.
Inaugurated on May 8, 2005, the church features a contemporary architectural style, with geometric lines and a unique facade, marked by a set of distinct volumes and a large glazed element in the central area. The work, initiated in 1993, was adapted over time due to financial constraints, resulting in a harmonious and functional building.
Inside, the space is spacious and bright, with a capacity for approximately 550 seated guests. The layout prioritizes visibility and acoustics, making the environment suitable for both religious celebrations and moments of personal reflection. The tall and narrow bell tower reinforces the verticality of the ensemble and adds a distinctive visual element to the building's profile.
The construction of the church was the result of a long collective effort involving community donations, support from local entities, and contributions from construction entrepreneurs. The project was driven by the then parish priest, who closely oversaw the work's completion over twelve years.
Associated with the temple are social support structures, including a nursery, an after-school care center, and a senior center. Community action also extends beyond the country's borders, with a support program for people with disabilities in São Tomé and Príncipe. This social dimension complements the space's religious function, reinforcing the church's role as a point of gathering and solidarity in local life.
