District: Lisboa > Cascais > Carcavelos > São Gonçalo

Location

The Cascalitos Children's Playground is located in Carcavelos, a town in the municipality of Cascais. It is situated in the São Gonçalo urbanization, specifically at Quinta de São Gonçalo, next to Avenida de Espanha. This location offers a tranquil environment, integrated into a residential area, making it a reference point for families in the region.

Concept and Theme

This children's leisure space distinguishes itself from traditional playgrounds by its thematic concept. It is a place where the mascots 'Bia' and 'João', known as 'Os Cascalitos', are the central figures. These characters were created to bring Cascais' heritage closer to a younger audience, transforming the park into a fun and culturally enriching experience.

Interactivity and Accessibility

One of the park's most striking features is its interactivity. Visitors can activate the Cascalitos figures through mechanical energy, generated by their own use. This mechanism not only provides an engaging experience, but also triggers audio descriptions of the space. This feature is particularly valuable, as it allows visually impaired visitors to fully understand and enjoy their surroundings, promoting inclusion.

Educational Messages

In addition to fun, the Cascalitos Park integrates an important educational component. The descriptions and interactions with the mascots convey environmental awareness messages. In an accessible way, topics such as waste management, the importance of water saving, and the responsibility of collecting animal waste are addressed. The park also shares curiosities about local history, such as the origin of the name of the town of Cascais itself, making the visit an opportunity to learn.
