The Convent of Nossa Senhora do Bom Sucesso, also known as the Dominican Convent of Nossa Senhora do Bom Sucesso, is located in the parish of Belém, in Lisbon.
Founded in 1639 by the Irish priest Daniel O' Daly, the convent was established to house Dominican nuns from Ireland, who were facing persecution in their country of origin. The foundation was supported by D. Iria de Brito, a noble Portuguese widow who donated her property in Belém for the creation of the convent.
The convent has a typical architecture of religious buildings of the time, with an attached church that is still an example of the art and faith that marked the period.
This convent is significant for being one of the few places in Portugal where Irish nuns could find refuge during a period of religious persecution. In addition, it played an important role in the local community over the centuries.
The title of Nossa Senhora do Bom Sucesso is venerated in various parts of the world, including Portugal, where the image of the Virgin Mary has been associated with miracles and the protection of the faithful.
Today, the convent continues to be a place of worship and historical interest, attracting visitors who wish to learn more about the religious history of Lisbon and the Marian devotion associated with Bom Sucesso.
