Located on Avenida da República, in the Avenidas Novas neighborhood, it is one of the most iconic structures in Lisbon.
Considered the main bullring in Portugal and classified as 1st Category, it is a reference in the tauromachic culture of the country.
The arena can accommodate up to 9,269 people, including 6,848 seated places. In addition to the traditional bullfights, which take place during the summer, the space hosts concerts, fairs, exhibitions and other events throughout the year.
The first bullring in Lisbon was built in Xabregas in 1578. The current structure of Campo Pequeno was inaugurated in 1892, succeeding several temporary arenas that existed in the city. The building was built in a neo-Arabic style, in red brick, standing out in the urban landscape.
At the beginning of the 21st century, Campo Pequeno underwent a major renovation, including the construction of an underground shopping center and a parking lot with 1,250 spaces. The renovation also introduced a removable roof, allowing the space to be used throughout the year.
The arena continues to be a dynamic cultural space, hosting four bullfights a year, as well as numerous musical and cultural events. Since 2020, the management of the complex has been in charge of the company Plateia Colossal, led by Álvaro Covões.
Reopened in 2015, the museum offers an overview of the history of bullfighting in Portugal, displaying pieces from private collections and important figures in the bullfighting world. The museum attracts visitors from various nationalities, interested in Portuguese bullfighting culture.
