Location

Situated in the heart of Parque Dom Carlos I, in Caldas da Rainha, the Embarkation Pier (Cais de Embarque) lies on the edge of the main lake, next to dirt paths and wooded areas that open up to the water.

The setting is urban and green. The tall canopies cast shade over the lake's edge, and from the pier, the historical architectural facade rising behind the vegetation stands out in the landscape.

Scenic Viewpoint

From the pier, one can see the water's surface and the wooded peninsula that juts out into the center of the lake, connected by a pedestrian path. On calm days, the reflections of the trees and facades create very appealing photographic compositions.

It is common to observe water birds crossing the surface. Ducks and swans approach the shores, adding movement to the scenery, especially in the early morning and late afternoon when the light is softer.

Atmosphere and Experience

The atmosphere near the Embarkation Pier is serene. The discreet sound of the water and the rhythm of the small boats invite you to slow down, sit on a nearby bench, or walk along the lake's edge.

From here, the path leading to the peninsula reveals different angles of the lake and the vegetation. The navigation is calm and allows for appreciating, at a short distance, the relationship between water and trees that characterizes this space.

Context and Memory

The lake, the peninsula, and the pier are part of the romantic design of the park, conceived between the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries for outdoor recreation and contact with nature.

The proximity between water, vegetation, and architecture gives character to the location and helps in understanding the symbolic role of this scenery in the city's daily life.
