Situated in the serene locality of Corujeira, within the municipality of Guarda, the Owl Museum is located in the area known as Quinta da Raia. This location provides a predominantly rural and tranquil environment, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the region's natural landscape. The museum integrates harmoniously into this country setting, inviting a calm discovery experience, far from the hustle and bustle of more urbanized areas.
The Owl Museum houses a notable collection, comprising approximately one thousand examples of replicas of this intriguing bird. The pieces, from diverse origins, are crafted from various materials and exhibit a wide range of sizes. This diversity reflects the universality and multiple forms of representation of the owl through different cultures and artistic expressions, inviting the visitor to observe the particularities of each specimen.
The genesis of this museological space is the result of a story of passion and dedication. The collection was initiated by a man with a strong connection to Corujeira, who, residing in Brazil, dedicated himself to collecting representations of the owl, a bird that symbolized his roots and homeland for him. Later, businessman António Martins da Fonseca, with family ties to Corujeira, continued and brought visibility to this vast collection started by his father. This initiative transformed a personal passion into a cultural heritage accessible to the public. The relevance and recognition of this collection were such that CTT (Correios de Portugal) even dedicated a stamp to it, underlining its symbolic and cultural value.
