Shrouded in tales of ghosts and witchcraft, it is said that the friars of the convent, linked to the Inquisition, propagated stories that are still told today. It is common to hear accounts of priests without backs seen at night in the surrounding area.
The ruins are avoided by the population due to horror stories. Only smugglers passed through the place, but always in groups.
Founded in 1268, it was an important pilgrimage center. Its historical importance is undeniable, despite the frightening legends.
After the friars abandoned it, many removed stones from the convent to build houses. Ti João Nobre ignored supernatural warnings and suffered a tragedy, which discouraged others from removing stones.
Near the convent, there are remains of a prehistoric dolmen, a funerary monument that testifies to the megalithic past of the region.
It includes the temple, a cross, fountain, fair sheds, stonework benches, old inn, and granary. The church has a wide facade and an internal structure of three naves, with 16th-century mural paintings.
Legend has it that the convent was founded due to a promise made during a battle, giving rise to the name "Sacaparte".
Nearby, there is a spring whose water is considered therapeutic by the locals.
