Authentic flavors that tell the story of our land

Percebes

Speciality

Percebes are a crustacean that inhabits the rocks most battered by the sea on the Vicentina coast, being an ex-libris of the gastronomy of the municipality of Vila do Bispo. Their harvesting is arduous and dangerous, carried out by local 'perceveiros' who defy the waves to extract them. They are characterized by their intense sea flavor, generally consumed boiled in salt water, revealing the purity and strength of the Atlantic that bathes this territory.

Algarvian Octopus

Speciality

Octopus is one of the most emblematic inhabitants of Vila do Bispo's waters, being a central ingredient in several local recipes. Prepared in various ways, from rich stews to simpler grilled or roasted dishes, it stands out for its tender texture and characteristic flavor. Its presence in local cuisine reflects the abundance of this cephalopod on the council's coast and the mastery with which it is transformed into comforting and flavorful dishes rooted in fishing tradition.

Fish and Seafood Cataplana

Speciality

Cataplana is a cooking method and a traditional utensil from the Algarve, ideal for preparing fresh fish and seafood caught on the coast of Vila do Bispo. In this hermetic copper pot, the ingredients – a variety of seasonal fish, shellfish, vegetables, and aromatic herbs – slowly cook in their own steam, concentrating the flavors of the sea and land in a rich and perfumed broth. It is a dish that celebrates the freshness of local products and the gastronomic heritage of the region.

Seafood Açorda

Speciality

Seafood açorda is a traditional dish that combines the richness of fresh seafood from the coast of Vila do Bispo with stale Alentejo or Algarve bread. The bread is crumbled and mixed with an aromatic seafood broth, garlic, coriander, and olive oil, to which various types of seafood are added. It is a robust and flavorful dish that reflects the ability to make use of all available resources and create a substantial meal, with deep roots in the region's popular cuisine.
