Monte Gordo Beach is located in the town of the same name, which is part of the municipality of Vila Real de Santo António, in the easternmost part of the Algarve. The beach is integrated into the urban area of Monte Gordo, extending over a vast area that borders, to the west, the Forest Nursery. Its geographical position on the leeward side of the Algarve contributes to some of its unique characteristics.
Visitors to Monte Gordo Beach will find a particularly extensive and flat sandy beach. With a considerable length of approximately 1.4 kilometers, this vast stretch of golden sand offers plenty of space, even during the busiest periods. The beach's vastness allows for long strolls along the shoreline and provides a sense of freedom and an open horizon.
One of the distinguishing features of Monte Gordo Beach is its water temperature. The waters here are frequently cited as being among the warmest in mainland Portugal. This particularity makes swimming in the sea especially pleasant and invites visitors to enjoy the ocean for longer periods throughout the year. Being a south-facing beach, it benefits from generous sun exposure.
Monte Gordo has a tradition linked to tourism that solidified from the 1960s onwards. The beach was one of the places that drove the development of the town as a leading summer destination. Observing the surrounding area, it is possible to detect elements that tell the story of its evolution, from the times when tourism began to establish itself in the region.
