Cabanas Beach is located on Cabanas Island, a coastal strip of sand that stretches in front of the village of Cabanas. This island is an integral part of the Ria Formosa Natural Park. To reach the beach, the journey is made by boat from the waterfront in the village, sailing through the tranquil waters of the estuary.
Visitors to Cabanas Beach will find a remarkably long sandy area, extending for approximately seven kilometers. The sand is soft, white or golden in color, and remains clean. The vast available area, especially visible during low tide, allows for long walks and offers space to enjoy the environment without feeling crowded, even during peak seasons.
Set within the scenery of the Ria Formosa Natural Park, the beach offers an environment closely connected to nature. The boat crossing to the island provides a first contact with the lagoon landscape and its biodiversity, such as birdwatching. On the island, the presence of walkways over the dunes helps preserve this delicate ecosystem, allowing sustainable access to the sandy area.
The waters that bathe Cabanas Beach are generally calm and inviting for swimming. The beach is recognized for its suitability for various nautical activities, namely the practice of windsurfing and sailing. Besides these options, the extensive sandy area is ideal for long walks by the sea, moments of relaxation in the sun, or games on the sand.
The quality of Cabanas Beach is attested by important distinctions, such as the attribution of the Blue Flag and the Gold Quality classification, which recognize the quality of the bathing water and environmental management. In 2013, the beach received international prominence by being considered by the British newspaper The Guardian as the best beach in Portugal and Spain.
