Erected on top of a gentle hill in the parish of Pereiro, in Soudes (municipality of Alcoutim), the Cavaco Mill dominates the surrounding rural landscape, offering an extensive panorama over the Caldeirão mountain range and the cork oak fields.
The surroundings are marked by a carpet of Mediterranean vegetation, where stone pines and holm oaks stand out, framing the building and creating a natural observation point next to the village of Pereiro.
Reconstructed in 1900, it maintained the traditional design of Algarvian windmills: a cylindrical masonry body, plastered and painted white, with doors and windows outlined in blue, which enhance the typical chromatic contrast of the region.
The name “Cavaco” honours the family responsible for its preservation, recalling the role these devices played in processing cereals and sustaining local communities over several generations.
The metal sails, still at rest, cast delicate shadows on the uneven surface of the dry terrain, inviting a pause for contemplation and photographic recording.
The surrounding silence, punctuated only by the chirping of birds, provides an experience of tranquility, ideal for those who value the presence of built heritage in dialogue with the Algarvian nature.
