Located in the parish of Santiago, in the city of Tavira.
Built around 1272 by King Dinis, it is believed to have been initially occupied by the Knights Templar and subsequently by Franciscan friars. After the end of the Liberal Wars, it came to belong to the Confraternity of the Third Order of Saint Francis.
It features a combination of Gothic and Baroque styles, notable for the two domes at its top.
It contains images of Our Lady of the Conception and elements related to Holy Week, such as the Procession of Ashes. It also features two old chapels with Gothic characteristics.
It sustained significant damage over the years, including earthquakes in 1722 and 1755, a collapse in 1843, and a fire caused by lightning in 1881.
The current sacristy and two chapels are located within the original Gothic building, opening onto the municipal garden. The sacristy features an impressive sexpartite Gothic vault and a large pointed arch window, possibly being the former chapter house of the convent. The two chapels have pointed arches and ribbed vaults supported by capitals with vegetal motifs, potentially having been part of the convent's lost cloister.
