The Church of São Lourenço is located in the parish of Almancil, in the municipality of Loulé, Algarve.
Built at the end of the 17th century, the church is dedicated to Saint Lawrence of Huesca. It is considered an important monument of the Algarve.
It was classified as a Property of Public Interest since 1946, which makes it a place of great historical and cultural importance.
- Tiles: The interior of the church is entirely covered with tiles dating from 1730, created by Policarpo de Oliveira Bernardes. These tiles depict scenes from the life of Saint Lawrence, providing an impressive visual spectacle.
- Architecture: The church has a single nave, with a Baroque decoration rich in details. The sculpted and gilded altarpieces, as well as the triumphal arch and the interior dome, are also prominent elements.
- Chancel: The chancel's altarpiece is made of gilded wood carving and attributed to master Manuel Martins, an important Algarve sculptor. He is also responsible for the image of Saint Lawrence present in the church.
- Sacristy: The sacristy contains a beautiful sculpted piece of furniture, which complements the beauty of the church.
