The Church of São Lourenço stands in the Nora area, in the locality of Rio de Moinhos, municipality of Borba, next to Avenida da Nave. Surrounded by the Alentejo plateau, it benefits from an open landscape where the contrast between the white of the building and the green-white of the olive groves creates a unique setting.
The surroundings are characterized by small rural houses and dirt paths, giving the visitor a sense of immersion in the tranquil rhythm of this part of the Alentejo.
Built to replace an older temple, the current church maintained its dedication to São Lourenço, a martyr venerated in this territory. The inauguration date dates back to the second half of the 20th century, when local communities united to build a larger and more functional space.
The patron saint's day is traditionally celebrated on August 10th, recreating memories linked to the sacrifice of São Lourenço and his fame as a distributor of goods among the needy.
The facade is distinguished by its simple and clean lines, with cubic volumes painted white and a bell tower that emerges as a vertical element of light stone, crowned by a metal cross. Access is through a portico with discreet colonnades, highlighting the balance between tradition and modernity.
The interior offers a serene atmosphere, marked by the light entering through small side windows. Next to the main nave, there is a mortuary chapel, of restrained design, which complements the welcoming character of the space.
