The Borba Lake is located on the outskirts of the town of Borba, in Alentejo, next to the National Road 4 that connects Elvas to Estremoz. The area is marked by the typical landscape of the region, with vast terrain and low vegetation, where the horizon extends around the calm waters of the lake. It is an open space, away from the urban center, which gives it an atmosphere of tranquility and isolation.
The place is easily accessible from the main road and often serves as a stopping point for those crossing the municipality. The surroundings are simple and rural, reflecting the genuine and unpretentious character of the interior Alentejo region.
The lake presents a mirrored surface that stands out in the arid and luminous landscape of Borba. The body of water is bordered by small areas of packed earth and spontaneous vegetation, creating a natural scene of great serenity. On sunny days, the shades of water and sky blend, offering a sense of calm and amplitude.
Despite its simple beauty, the space shows signs of abandonment and lack of maintenance. There are residues left by visitors and the uneven ground can make access less pleasant. Nevertheless, the lake retains a particular scenic value, serving as a point for observing nature and a pause during trips through the region.
The Borba Lake is a place known among those who frequently travel in the area, often used for quick rest or to appreciate the rural environment that characterizes Alentejo. It does not have formal tourist or recreational infrastructure, being a place of passage rather than permanence.
The tranquility of the place sometimes contrasts with the lack of environmental care that residents and travelers lament. The preservation of this natural space depends largely on the respect of those who visit it. When clean and peaceful, the lake reveals a more authentic and serene face of the Alentejo landscape.
