Located in the surrounding area of Góis, the Ecomuseum is situated in a traditional schist village. This location, surrounded by the natural mountain landscape, offers a tranquil and authentic environment. Being on-site allows visitors to observe the typical architecture of these settlements up close and experience the calm of rural mountain life.
The main focus of the Góis Ecomuseum is the deep connection between local communities and schist. It explores how this natural material has shaped the architecture, tools, and way of life of the region's populations over centuries. Through its exhibitions, it is possible to understand the history, culture, and ancestral techniques associated with the use of schist.
More than an exhibition space, the Góis Ecomuseum is integrated into the village itself, functioning as a guardian of collective memory. Its approach as an ecomuseum means that the connection with the surrounding natural landscape and the community is central. The aim is thus to preserve and share knowledge about the sustainable relationship that populations have established with their environment over generations.
Inside the Ecomuseum, visitors have the opportunity to observe up close material testimonies of daily life from other times. Agricultural tools, household utensils, and other artifacts tell the story of the routines, trades, and challenges faced by generations who inhabited these lands. It is a way to glimpse rural mountain life as it once was.
