The mural A Farrapeira is located in the village of Dominguizo, a small settlement that is part of the municipality of Covilhã. Dominguizo is characterized by its tranquil and rural atmosphere, typical of the villages in Beira Baixa. The mural is thus integrated into a genuine context, where urban art merges with the architecture and landscape of a mountain community, inviting a calm observation of the surrounding environment.
This remarkable piece of public art was executed in 2019 by the artist Miguel Peralta. Its creation represented a significant contribution to Dominguizo's visual identity, transforming a common wall into a point of interest that captures visitors' attention. The mural demonstrates contemporary art's capacity to revitalize spaces and to dialogue with a community's memory and present.
The name of the mural, A Farrapeira, refers to a traditional figure, perhaps linked to the humblest professions and the daily life of yesteryear. Through this representation, the work invites reflection on local roots and history, paying a kind of tribute to those who, with their simple lives, helped build the identity of these lands. It is an element that, visually, evokes the collective memory and the intangible cultural heritage of the region.
