The Capela da Glória (Chapel of Glory) is located in the heart of the city of Braga, integrated into the historic area of the Sé (Cathedral). Situated next to Braga Cathedral, it is part of one of the oldest and most emblematic religious complexes in the country. Its presence in the historic center allows visitors to experience the atmosphere of the primitive urban core, where centuries of faith, art, and tradition converge.
The Capela da Glória is one of Braga's oldest and most significant funerary spaces, dating back to the 14th century. It was commissioned by Archbishop D. Gonçalo Pereira (1326–1348), who intended it to be his burial place. This intention confers exceptional historical and symbolic value upon the chapel, representing the power and spirituality of the medieval Archbishopric of Braga. Its memorial character perpetuates the figure of one of the great patrons and reformers of the Church of Braga.
The interior of the chapel houses the notable Gothic tomb of D. Gonçalo Pereira, placed in the center of the space. Executed in limestone, it is considered one of the most important funerary works of Portuguese Gothic art, with rich sculptural decoration depicting religious figures and heraldic motifs. The harmony between architecture and sculpture creates an atmosphere of solemnity and contemplation, testifying to the artistic sophistication of the period and the prestige of Braga Cathedral.
