The Pelourinho of Barcelos is located in the parish of Barcelos, Vila Boa and Vila Frescainha (São Martinho and São Pedro), in the city and municipality of Barcelos, district of Braga, in Portugal.
Currently, the pelourinho is located near the ruins of the Palace of the Counts of Barcelos, next to the Mother Church of Barcelos.
Classified as a Property of Public Interest since 1933, the Pelourinho of Barcelos has a history dating back to the late 15th or early 16th century.
Originally, the pelourinho was located in Largo da Picota, between the Town Hall and the Mother Church. However, it was moved to its current position in 1905.
The pelourinho is characterized by the Gothic style, featuring an octagonal shaft that ends in a granite cage. This cage is similar to a carved lantern, typical of the late Gothic period.
The current base of the pelourinho is composed of four octagonal steps.
