The "Perpetual Motion" monument is located in the city of Braga, specifically on Cividade Hill, an area with a remarkable historical past. This hill is recognized as one of the places with the most Roman vestiges in Braga, providing the work with a setting directly linked to the city's foundation and evolution. It is situated in the area known as Senhor da Veiga, an urban area of Braga.
The "Perpetual Motion" was inaugurated on June 24, 2000, with a well-defined purpose: to mark the two thousand years since the foundation of Bracara Augusta, the city of Braga. Its creation represented a tribute to the long history and profound Roman heritage that characterize this city in Minho. The name of the work, "Perpetual Motion," evokes Braga's continuity and uninterrupted evolution throughout the centuries.
This sculpture is a work by the visual artist and sculptor Pedro Cabrita Reis. Its conception is inspired by Roman architecture, presenting a reinterpretation of an ancient aqueduct. The monument, constructed from concrete, is composed of three semicircular arches, which are supported by three robust pillars. Each pillar incorporates a set of two columns, one circular and the other rectangular, arranged irregularly, lending the piece a uniqueness and a contemporary approach to classical monumentality.
