The Church and Tower of Manhente are located in the parish of Manhente, in the municipality of Barcelos, in Portugal.
The site dates back to the 10th century and was founded by D. Pedro Afonso Dorraes and his wife D. Gotinha Oeris. Later, it passed to their daughter D. Teresa Pires and her husband D. Ramiro Aires.
The church presents Romanesque, Gothic, and Baroque characteristics. It has a longitudinal plan with a single nave, chancel, narrow bell tower, and sacristy. The main facade has a Romanesque portal decorated with elements characteristic of the region.
The portal of Manhente is a notable example of decorated archivolts. The columns of the portal are short in relation to the door. The church also has inscriptions that indicate the date of construction.
On the side and rear wall of the chancel, there are ashlars with pre-Romanesque motifs, such as circles with pentalpha and floral motifs, which were reused from the primitive construction.
The quadrangular tower served as a defensive watchtower and was part of a larger complex that included other structures currently in ruins.
The Church and Tower of Manhente have been classified as a National Monument since 1915.
