The Tanque do Lopes is situated in the area known as Além, in Esporões, in the municipality of Braga, integrated into a green corridor dominated by cork oaks and pines.
It is found next to dirt rural paths, a short distance from the nearest dwellings, in a tranquil context that favors contemplation of the space.
Built in mortared stone masonry, the tank dates back to the 19th century and was part of the traditional system for collecting and distributing water to neighboring agricultural properties.
The walls show traces of moss and lichens, proof of continuous use over the decades and the close relationship between the construction and the natural environment.
The water surface takes on greenish hues, a direct reflection of the surrounding trees and the small aquatic plants that thrive there.
On the banks, a mixture of organic matter and exposed rock can be observed, creating a micro-habitat that attracts insects, amphibians, and small birds.
The symmetrical rectangle of the tank, combined with the irregular textures of the stone, offers a perfect framing to capture contrasts of light and shadow throughout the day.
In the late afternoon, the silhouettes of the trees over the water can generate particularly suggestive compositions, enhancing the balance between the architectural element and the rural landscape.
