The Hermitage is situated on Monte da Franqueira and offers a panoramic view of the maritime coastline from Esposende to Póvoa de Varzim. In addition, the site is home to other points of interest, such as the Via Sacra, the Chapels of Franqueira, the Castle and Castro of Faria, the Sanctuary, the Staircase of Senhora da Franqueira and the Franqueira Viewpoint.
Monte da Franqueira is rich in environmental, cultural, archaeological, religious and ethnographic heritage. The region has traces of human occupation from the Chalcolithic period to the medieval period, including a Roman castro and the ruins of the Castle of Faria.
The Convent of Calvário do Bom Jesus da Franqueira, a place of great religious and historical importance, stands out in the region's heritage.
Monte da Franqueira can be accessed via National Road No. 205 (Barcelos, Póvoa de Varzim) and Municipal Road No. 1111 through the parish of Carvalhal. It is also possible to reach the site from the parishes of Pereira, Faria and Milhazes, via specific roads.
Monte da Franqueira is considered the Sacred Mount of Barcelos, attracting thousands of people every year in pilgrimage, especially during the month of August. The sanctuary received papal recognition, with the granting of plenary indulgences to pilgrims and brothers of the Confraternity by Pope Paul V and Pope Pius IX.
The Hermitage of Nossa Senhora da Franqueira Pereira was designated as a Property of Public Interest, recognizing its historical, cultural and religious importance.
