Located in Outeiro, in the parish of Veade, municipality of Celorico de Basto, this house stands at the top of a slope that opens onto the valley of the Veade stream. The surroundings feature a green carpet of fields and forests extending to the neighboring elevations.

Access is via rural paths that highlight the agricultural character of the region, offering a unique perspective on the Basto landscape, where terraced fields and small cultivated plots blend with spontaneous vegetation.

Historical Value

With roots possibly in the 16th century, Casa do Outeiro was rebuilt in 1860 following a major fire that devastated part of the original structure. Its classification as a property of public interest, attributed on September 29, 1977, by Decree No. 129/77, recognizes its role in local memory.

The oldest documentary mentions refer to this property as a rural manor house, testifying to the connection of families such as Teixeira, Macedo, Barros, and Carvalho, whose coats of arms are engraved on a central stone of the main facade's pediment.

Architecture and Environment

An example of Baroque civil architecture, the rectangular-plan building has two floors featuring balcony windows with iron railings. The crenellated lateral tower, with three levels, gives it a singular architectural profile, dominating the complex and emphasizing its presence at the top of the slope.

At the rear, an annex originally intended for agricultural activities extends parallel to the main body, reflecting the manor's rural vocation. In the gardens, traditional tanks are flanked by boxwood and camellias, creating points of interest that fit into the botanical heritage of the Basto region.
